Police: motorcyclist killed in Marine Drive crash during reported street race; other driver cited | Local News


PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) – One person died early Monday morning after an accident in north Portland, and his death appears to have occurred during a street race, police said.

According to the Portland Police Department, officers responded at around 12:51 a.m. to an accident in the 6200 block of North Marine Drive.

On the spot, the police learned that a motorcycle had hit a Mercedes sedan.

The biker died instantly, police said. Their identity has not been disclosed.

Police did not report any other injuries.

PPB said the fatal crash took place during a reported illegal street race in the area with around 350 people in attendance.

Investigators believe that speed was likely a factor in the crash, and that the Mercedes and the motorcycle may have been involved in speed races.

The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 19-year-old Raphael Andres Orozco of Portland, has been cited for reckless driving.

The accident is still under investigation.
